Frequently Asked Questions About Counselling
1. What is counselling and how can it help me?
Counselling is a professional, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and life challenges. It helps you build clarity, resilience, and emotional wellbeing. Whether you're experiencing grief, anxiety, or a life transition, counselling provides tools and understanding to navigate your journey.
2. How do I know if I need counselling?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward—counselling can help. You don’t need to have a “big” problem to benefit from talking to a trained counsellor.
3. What issues do you specialise in?
We offer support for grief and loss which also includes breakdowns in relationships and life transitions as well as anxiety, burnout, parenting support, and FIFO family support. Our approach is person-centred, compassionate, and tailored to your unique experience.
4. What’s the difference between a counsellor and a psychologist?
Both are mental health professionals. Counsellors focus on talk therapy and emotional support, especially for life challenges and grief. Psychologists may diagnose mental health conditions and offer clinical treatments. We are registered with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and follow their Code of Ethics.
5. What can I expect in my first counselling session?
Your first session is about getting to know you—your story, your needs, and your goals. There’s no pressure to “have it all figured out.” We’ll create a safe, supportive space to begin where you are.
6. Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Everything you share is kept confidential, except in rare legal situations (e.g. safety risks or court orders). Confidentiality is essential to the trust in counselling.
7. Do I need a referral to see a counsellor?
No referral is needed. You can reach out directly and book a session—it's that simple.
8. How long are sessions and how often should I come?
First sessions are 75 mins to allow time to go over any questions you may have and get started. All other sessions are 50 minutes. Frequency depends on your needs—some come weekly, others fortnightly. We’ll work together to find a rhythm that suits you.
9. Do you offer online or in-person counselling?
We offer both. Online sessions are available Australia-wide. In-person sessions are available on the Sunshine Coast (update with your location if needed).
10. What is the cost of a session?
Initial sessions are $130 and all subsequent sessions are $110
11. Do you accept private health insurance or offer rebates?
No not at this time.
12. What if I feel nervous or don’t know what to say?
That’s okay. It’s normal to feel nervous. You don’t need to have the right words—just come as you are. We’ll go at your pace.
13. Do you work with children or teens?
Yes, we support children and young people experiencing grief, anxiety, or family change. Parental involvement may be part of the process depending on age and need.
14. Are your services suitable for FIFO families?
Absolutely! We understand the unique stress and schedule of FIFO life—separation, transition, parenting solo, and loneliness. Counselling can offer ongoing support and strategies for the whole family.
