About Shifting Perspective Counselling

I’ve built Shifting Perspective Counselling from a deep belief that healing doesn’t happen through pressure or perfection — it happens through gentle understanding and practical tools that help you reconnect with yourself, your relationships, and your sense of possibility.

Whether you’re navigating a significant loss, carrying emotional exhaustion, or trying to support your family through overwhelming moments, you're not expected to face it alone. Support is here.

My Approach to Counselling

I use a blend of evidence-based therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), emotion-focused approaches, and practical, strengths-based strategies.
My sessions are warm, collaborative, and designed to help you:
-
Understand your emotional patterns
-
Process grief in a safe, non-judgmental space
-
Build coping strategies that genuinely work
-
Strengthen family communication
-
Support ADHD-related behaviour and emotional regulation
-
Rebuild confidence after setbacks
-
Navigate FIFO life pressures with more stability and connection

Clients often tell me they feel “lighter,” “heard for the first time,” and “more grounded” after sessions — not because their pain magically disappears, but because they finally have space to breathe and tools that support real change.

Why I Specialise in Grief & Loss

Grief is one of the most misunderstood emotional experiences. It shows up in many forms — death, divorce, relationship changes, burnout, displacement, identity shifts, even losing the life you imagined.

I support clients through every layer of grief, including:
-
Ambiguous loss
-
Hidden or unrecognised grief
-
Grief after divorce or separation
-
Loss of identity or direction
-
Life transitions and major changes

My goal is not to rush you or “fix” your grief — but to walk alongside you as you make sense of it, honour it, and find your way forward at your own pace.

Supporting FIFO Families

As someone with lived experience of the FIFO lifestyle, I deeply understand the emotional toll it can take on partners, children, and relationships. FIFO families often carry:
-
Loneliness
-
Reintegration challenges
-
Communication strain
-
Parenting pressures
-
Cycles of overwhelm, disconnect, and reconnection

My work in this area focuses on practical strategies to strengthen connection, reduce conflict, and help families feel more supported and understood.

Supporting Late-Diagnosed ADHD Adults, Children & Teens

Many people reach adulthood without ever realising that their challenges with focus, emotional regulation, burnout, or overwhelm were signs of ADHD. A late diagnosis, or even the self-recognition that ADHD traits are present, can bring a mix of relief, confusion, and grief for the years spent “trying harder” without the right support.

I work with late-diagnosed ADHD adults, helping them:
-
understand their emotional and behavioural patterns
-
navigate identity shifts and self-compassion after diagnosis
-
manage rejection sensitivity (RSD)
-
reduce overwhelm and burnout
-
build systems that support follow-through
-
heal from years of self-criticism or masking
-
strengthen relationships and communication

For children and teens with ADHD, my approach is relational, practical, and structured to support:
-
emotional regulation
-
transitions and routine challenges
-
behaviour patterns
-
school stress
-
focus and motivation
-
resilience and frustration tolerance
-
confidence and identity development

For both adults and young people, ADHD is never a flaw, it’s a neurotype that benefits from clarity, support, and understanding. Together, we explore what works for your brain, honour your strengths, and build strategies that fit your life rather than forcing you into systems that were never designed with your needs in mind.

This support is not diagnostic. I offer relational and educational strategies, with a focus on helping the whole family thrive with more predictability, connection, and confidence.

Performance Mindset Coaching for Youth Athletes

My background in psychology and experience supporting high-performing teens (particularly in basketball and dance) allows me to help young athletes:

-
Build confidence
-
Manage fear of failure
-
Reduce performance anxiety
-
Develop mental resilience
-
Strengthen focus and self-belief
-
Recover mentally after setbacks

This work blends mental skills training with emotional support, helping teens feel stronger both on and off the court or stage.

My Values in Practice

Everything I do is shaped by:
-
Compassion - every story deserves gentleness
-
Authenticity - real, human conversations over clinical jargon
-
Safety - non-judgmental support at all times
-
Empowerment - helping you feel capable, grounded, and in control
-
Practicality - tools that work in real life, not just in theory

I believe counselling should feel like sitting with someone who genuinely gets it — someone who can hold your story and help you uncover what you need to move forward.

Sessions In-Person or Online

I offer face-to-face sessions on the Sunshine Coast (Palmview) and online across Australia.
Telehealth sessions provide flexibility and privacy for FIFO families, shift workers, parents, and anyone who needs support from the comfort of home.

If You’re Here, You Don’t Have to Navigate This Alone

Whether you’re grieving a loss, struggling to cope, supporting a child with emotional challenges, feeling disconnected in FIFO life, or wanting to strengthen your mental resilience, you deserve a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported.

I’m here when you’re ready.

Warmly,
Kimberly
